Ted Hooper, the owner of American Computers, was born and raised in Monmouth, IL. At age 16, he graduated High School and enlisted in the US Navy working special warfare on a nuclear submarine and as part of Navy Seal Teams and DDS Shelters Desert Shield and Desert Storm. After 4 years of service, Ted returned home to begin teaching Senior citizens and community members in Galesburg, IL on how to use and work with computers.

In 1997, Ted moved on to run a contracting company for AT&T @Home High Speed Internet, and help them test cable internet service in one of the first two locations in the country (Rock Island, IL). After rewiring the cable infrastructures of every residence in Rock Island, the test proved successful and AT&T rolled this service out nationally. Five years later Ted became a Technical Demonstrator/Contractor for Microsoft, where he taught large audiences about various Microsoft products and how best to use them.

After years of working in the corporate world, and hearing again and again from customers how frustrated they were with the service they got from Computer technicians, and how hard it was to find someone who could fix their computers and answer questions, Ted knew he needed to do something to change that. So American Computers was founded. Based on small-town ethics, and a desire to help customers feel like they know their computer technician, American Computers helps break everything down into simple, easy-to-understand terms – we won’t speak to you in “computer-ese”. We don’t charge you when you call with simple, quick questions, and we believe in helping to advise you on any purchases you need to make for your computer needs (you tell us what you want your computer to do, and we’ll tell you what we know will work). At American Computers we take care of you, and make sure that your problem is fixed right every time.
